The usual coat color is solid white or with black, tan or red spots; hairless variety of the breed can be of any color. The temperament of these dogs is very lively and affectionate; they are intelligent enough to manipulate the owner, so obedience training is a must.

These dogs are well-muscled with strong shoulders and legs; their bodies are compact and heads are tiny with a pointed muzzle. The puppies can be born with a short or full-length tail, which is docked at two days of age. The oregon rat terrier club will provide pictures of the kennel members.
